A fast start by last year’s Hayward Area Athletic League champions, San Leandro, didn’t stop the Castro Valley High boys basketball team from walking away with a 67-61 overtime victory Friday night. The Pirates started the game on a 9-0 run before the Trojans were able to battle back to 16-19 deficit by the end of the first quarter. When the Forum first reported on eight-year-old Luc Dochterman in August, he was just starting to collect money for a friend in Ecuador, a youngster that he met through the Christian Children’s Fund Program.
