Her passion for horses helped Melanie Buerke through some tough emotional times in her life, especially when her father left the family when she was 11 years old. She says that having a horse to love and take care of softened that blow.

They came by the hundreds, with their folding chairs, snacks, and parasols, staking out a patch of Castro Valley Blvd. to experience the big spring event of the year, Saturday’s Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade. 

This year’s 26th annual parade recognized one of it’s most faithful committee members and participants—Dale Yearian—who died last November. Yearian’s widow, Bette, rode proudly at the front of the parade as Grand Marshal. More
