Robert Hoffman of Castro Valley said he’s got “pretty good luck.” 

In the past, he won a trip to Alaska from a raffle. Now he has scored the opportunity to compete in a customized driving school led by such NASCAR stars as Clint Bowyer, Kurt Bush, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne and 2008 Daytona 500 Champ Ryan Newman. 

“I was at the store and bought a pack of Gillette razors. I do usually look for products that have contests,” said Hoffman, who took the razors home and entered the contest online in addition to mailing in a few index card entries. “I was pretty surprised when I got a Fed-ex package saying I won.”  More

East Bay Regional Parks Police are asking the public for help in their search for 48-year-old Susan Maunder of Castro Valley, who was last seen by her family at about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, as she left for a church activity in Pleasanton. 

“We really have nothing to go on other than she never showed up at her church function, and nobody has seen or heard from her,” said East Bay Regional Parks Sgt. Tyrone Davis.  More

The sun was bright in the Friday afternoon sky as scores of family members, friends and other spectators gathered along Redwood Road to take in the fantastic display of Castro Valley High School’s Homecoming Parade. This year’s theme was “The Sweet Life of Castro Valley.” 

“This sure is a great day. I was here Thursday and saw some of the Senior class marching on campus,” said School Superintendent Jim Fitzpatrick who also served as an event judge. “It’s just great to see the spirit of the kids. It really makes all Castro Valley proud.”   More

A Who’s-Who of federal, state and local government officials gathered in Castro Valley Thursday afternoon to break ground for a $34 million Interstate 580-Redwood Road Interchange. 

Rep. Barbara Lee, State Sen. Ellen Corbett, Assemblymember Mary Hayashi, and Supervisors Nate Miley and Alice Lai-Bitker all dug into the soil with ceremonial shovels to start the long-awaited project that promises to facilitate the flow of local traffic, and improve access to Castro Valley’s central business district and BART station.  More
