‘Hunger Forum’ Planned as More in CV Depend on Food Banks to Survive January 28, 2009

Faith Lutheran Church food- pantry officials have invited organizers from local food charities and the Alameda County Food Bank to a “Forum on Hunger” in Castro Valley in February to discuss the increasing number of families in town who are going hungry and what can be done about it.
“I don’t think people realize there’s a lot in Castro Valley who are hungry, and most of the need we see here is due to the economy,” said Faith Lutheran volunteer Mary Wildensten who organized next month’s event. “I hope getting people together will raise awareness and get more people involved.” More

The West County Board of Zoning Adjustments meeting this afternoon will review an application to make a number of structural improvements and expansions to the landmark Neighborhood (Three Crosses) Church in Castro Valley.

Castro Valley residents Flo Pierce and her daughter Autumn joined an estimated 1.5 million Americans who packed Washington D.C. in bone-chilling temperatures yesterday for the historic inauguration of the forty-fourth President of the United States, Barack Obama.
Others residents, including some Castro Valley High School students, were also in Washington to watch the ceremony first-hand, while hundreds of millions watched on television around the world in what was expected to be the most-viewed TV broadcast in history. More
